After decades of representing clients in insurance coverage and liability defense disputes, C. Michael Johnson started the Johnson Firm, LLC in Atlanta, Georgia in June 2007 to develop a firm dedicated to representing clients in complex insurance coverage litigation and liability defense. Mr. Johnson began his legal career in 1982 with the Karr Tuttle Campbell firm in Seattle upon graduating the University of North Carolina School of Law. Mr. Johnson focused primarily on general commercial liability and marine liability claims while with the Karr Tuttle Campbell firm. In 1984, Mr. Johnson and his wife decided to return to the Southeast where he joined Hurt, Richardson, Garner, Todd & Cadenhead, primarily representing insurance carriers on catastrophic property loss cases, large commercial general liability cases and maritime vessel and cargo loss cases. Also during this time, Mr. Johnson worked on a great number of environmental liability insurance coverage litigations arising from the surge of EPA Superfund clean-up enforcement actions. In 1992 Mr. Johnson joined with several other Hurt Richardson partners and co-founded Fellows, Johnson & LaBriola, LLP. Mr. Johnson continued his broad insurance practice handling complex insurance coverage disputes throughout his tenure with that firm. However, as that firm's practice became more varied and desired to pursue more plaintiff personal injury actions, Mr. Johnson desired to create a firm more dedicated to insurance coverage and liability defense in order to create a team of lawyers to better serve his clients.
Accompanying Mr. Johnson from the outset were Laurie E. Dugoniths and Thomas K. Wingfield, both of whom had extensive experience working with Mr. Johnson on a wide variety of insurance coverage and defense matters. Monique W. Hudson joined the firm in June of 2009. Prior to joining the Firm Ms. Hudson worked on complex insurance coverage and related litigation matters while working as an associate in the Tampa, Florida regional office of Phelps Dunbar.
Ms. Dugoniths began her legal career with Fellows, Johnson & LaBriola, LLP upon graduating from the University of Miami Law School in 1999. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Dugoniths had obtained a significant amount of experience both working aboard recreational charter vessels and around the marine industry in general. Thus, while working at Fellows, Johnson & LaBriola, Ms. Dugoniths began focusing her practice not only on insurance coverage matters generally but she also made the natural progression into handling marine insurance coverage cases. Her practice with Fellows, Johnson & LaBriola also involved contract disputes, premises liability claims and personal injury representation. Over the course of her experience at Fellows, Johnson & LaBriola Ms. Dugoniths worked under the tutelage of Mr. Johnson and obtained significant experience in handling insurance coverage and defense cases. Ms. Dugoniths continues to handle defense and insurance coverage cases here at The Johnson Firm.
Mr. Wingfield, a senior associate with the Firm, joined Fellows, Johnson & LaBriola, LLP after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2003. While at Fellows, Johnson & LaBriola, Mr. Wingfield worked with Mr. Johnson on a variety of insurance coverage matters, gaining experience in the first-party and third-party policy fields. Under the guidance of Mr. Johnson and Ms. Dugoniths, Mr. Wingfield has handled the analysis and litigation of various coverage matters including construction defect claims, demands for defenses under CGL policies and complex property claims.
Together Mr. Johnson, Ms. Dugoniths, Mr. Wingfield and Ms. Hudson focus their efforts on counseling and representing clients in complex insurance coverage matters and liability defense.
